I applaud the passion of your response, Dee. And I agree that there are definitions of disability, including the one you quote from the ADA. I also agree that the key to interpreting that definition hinges on the word "substantially." Depending on how that word is defined, calculations of the percentage of people who are disabled will vary. I have to add that because I'm also a person who is deaf, I absolutely get what you are saying about the limitations and challenges. (I can't count the number of times I've asked someone wearing a mask to repeat themselves and speak up, because I read lips and am having trouble understanding what they're saying.) As to your charge that I am "diluting and undermining the entire concept of Disability," we will have to agree to disagree. Thank you very much for taking the time to read and respond to my article.
